Basic Information
■ Isolation transformers have two basic functions:
Ensure continuity of operation in the event of a ground fault;
Reduce the voltage that a patient can tolerate to within a safe range
(Therefore, when current flows through the patient's body, it can protect them from the danger of electric shock)
■ Since the second indirect contact is equivalent to a short circuit, if the protective device trips accordingly, it will pose a serious threat to the patient.
Therefore, electrical equipment must be connected to an isolation transformer to monitor any insulation degradation signals from the first ground fault.
