Substations requiring automation are usually equipped with electromechanical protective relays for system protection. Although these existing devices may be outdated, they can still continue to serve for many years. Most of them are considered highly reliable and are easy for operators and maintenance personnel to understand and use. However, they lack the ability to send information to themselves and remote operators: which trip is its instantaneous or delayed action? What is the fault magnitude and duration? How many operations have occurred? Exactly when did it happen? And so on.
Add-on substation automation is implemented through SATEC ezPAC™ SA300 Power intelligent units. Automating existing electromechanical relay substations, this instrument is an ideal low-cost solution.
No need to replace substation equipment, SATEC's add-on automation concept only requires adding a simple ezPAC™ power intelligent unit for each feeder line, with minimal changes to distribution panels and wiring. This device interfaces with current CTs and PTs to obtain comprehensive automation information, and when working together with existing electromechanical relays, it does not interfere with the existing protection mechanisms. By providing information that relays originally could not provide, it extends the service life of these relays, resulting in the most cost-effective and fastest way to achieve automation. ezPAC™ extends the expected lifespan of electromechanical protective relays by providing information that these highly reliable devices lack, without interfering with existing protection mechanisms.
ezPAC™ combines advanced control and automation functions, intelligent fault recording, power quality and event sequence automatic analysis and reporting, among many other features. It also provides electricity billing metering, backup protection, and extensive protection and control capabilities (up to 48 digital inputs, 1 millisecond time resolution, and up to 32 relay outputs) to offer a substation and industrial automation solution. This ezPAC inherently provides many relevant control and monitoring functions for interval applications. The ezPAC™ is suitable for retrofitting as well as new public power projects.
eXpertManager™ Pro, a set of online power quality analysis tools from SATEC, works with ezPAC™ to achieve intuitive navigation between units, a system window for power quality events, and enhanced analysis capabilities for event sequences, waveforms, harmonic disturbances, and other power quality events.
