Medical Isolated Power System Solution

Advantages of IT Grounding System

The main advantage of the IT grounding system is to ensure the continuity of power service. It also has related advantages of achieving low fault current.
●● Improve Power Availability
If fault clearance involves automatic disconnection of the fault location, it may lead to:
1) Personal safety risks caused by power outage
2) Financial risks caused by production loss.
●● Avoid Fire and Explosion Risks
Many fires are caused by electric arcs resulting from high intensity, concentrated heating, or insulation faults. The higher the fault current, the greater the risk. The same applies to explosions.
●● Optimize Repair Maintenance
Because the IT grounding system allows devices to continue operating in a completely safe state without endangering personnel safety or causing equipment damage, whereas in TN and TT grounding systems, the only solution is to clear the fault before resetting the circuit. In the IT grounding system, fault clearance may be delayed for several hours depending on the probability of a second fault occurring quickly. Therefore, the IT grounding system is used in processes that allow interruptions but aim for optimized maintenance: 24 hours × 7 days continuous processes with maintenance teams present during operation.
●● Promote Preventive Maintenance
The IT grounding system requires insulation monitoring devices, which also provide good visibility of the power grid. Even when no fault exists, monitoring insulation resistance can identify degradation of circuit or equipment insulation, so intervention may be needed before an actual fault occurs.
●● Extend Equipment Life
High fault currents can cause significant damage to devices or electronic equipment, requiring considerable time and cost for repairs. With very limited fault current, the stress on equipment is reduced, thereby extending its service life.

Technical Features of Medical Isolated Power System

IMG_256

●● Power supply neutral point insulated from ground;
●● Exposed conductive parts of electrical equipment directly grounded;
●● Highest power supply continuity: the first ground fault inside the power supply system will not cause protective devices to operate, while quickly triggering an alarm;
●● Highest power supply safety: extremely low leakage current and contact voltage effectively ensure personal safety;

Main Components of Medical Isolated Power System

●● Medical Isolation Transformer: dedicated transformer for medical IT systems, ensuring continuity of operation under ground fault conditions,
 Reduces patient tolerable voltage within a safe range (thus protecting against electric shock risk when current passes through the patient's body)
●● Insulation Monitoring Device: monitors overload, temperature rise, and other states of the isolation transformer; continuously measures insulation values (kΩ) of single-phase or three-phase isolated networks
 If any measurement exceeds the set value (ground insulation value, overcurrent, or overtemperature), the alarm will be triggered
●● Remote Alarm Indicator: indicates and alarms system working status in operating rooms, nurse stations, etc.
●● Current Transformer: detects leakage current and sends a proportional signal to the corresponding receiver
●● Auxiliary Power Supply: used to power remote panel indicator lights
●● Fault Location Device: quickly locates the circuit with faults in the IT grounding system, helping maintenance personnel quickly eliminate faults. The fault location device can be independent or integrated with the insulation monitoring device.
●● Intelligent Location Current Transformer: works with the fault location device to locate faults
